Mimas:^[9]http://greekmythology.wikia.com/wiki/Mimas – Hephaestus – Mimas was buried under a heap of Molten Metal, while he did not die, he is buried under what is now Mt. Vesuvius. Mimas was a Gigantes who Aphrodite originally fought against. Mimas who according to Apollodorus was slain by Hephaistos when the god threw a volley of molten iron in the war against the gods. After that he was finished off by Herakles.

There is some controversy about whether Mimas and another Gigante Mimon (who was killed with the combined efforts of Ares and Herakles) Euripides suggests that it was a bolt of lightning from Zeus that killed Mimas by a bolt of lightning which leads to further controversy.

Further controversy occurs because the name Mimos is inscribed at the Acropolis, this however has been almost exclusively viewed as a spelling error for the name Mimas.

Mimas:^[10]http://www.greekmythology.com/Myths/Gigantes/Mimas/mimas.html was one of the Gigantes in Greek mythology, one of the sons of the Titans Uranus and Gaea which sprang out of the soil when Uranus was castrated by his son Cronus and the blood fell on the earth. He participated in the Gigantomachy, the battle that occurred between the Gigantes and the Olympians, and he was the main opposition of the god Hephaestus; he was killed by him with missiles of red hot metal. Another account says that he was killed by Zeus, hurling a thunderbolt against him and turning him to ash. He was buried off the coast of Naples, under the island of Prochyte, one of the Phlegraean Islands.
