Damysos (Δαμυσος) – A swiftest of the Gigantes who was slain in the war against the gods. Kheiron exhumed his body and extracting the swift “astragale” from his foot placed it in the heel of the hero Akhilleus.
Damysos[1]http://greekmythology.wikia.com/wiki/Damysos or Damysus was the fastest of the Gigantes, he like so many others. Later on, when Akhilleus was born, his mother dug up the body of the Gigante and removed his feet. Themis then attached the speed from Damysos’s feet to that of Akhilleus’ foot.
Ancient Text: “Thetis burned in a secret place the children she had by Peleus; six were born; when she had Akhilleus (Achilles), Peleus noticed and tore him from the flames with only a burnt foot and confided him to Kheiron (Chiron). The latter exhumed the body of the Gigante (Giant) Damysos who was buried at Pallene–Damysos was the fastest of all the Gigantes–removed the astragale and incorporated it into Akhilleus’ foot using ‘ingredients’. This astragale fell when Akhilleus was pursued by Apollon and it was thus that Akhilleus, fallen, was killed.”
