Greek form of Zarephath. Found in Luke 4:26. Probably the modern village of Sarafend. Elijah resided there during the drought. 1 Ki 17:9-10. A shrine dedicated to the goddess of fertility, Astarte, was discovered there.

Luke 4:26 “but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.”
